The Wairakei Primary School Board of Trustees works hard on your behalf to ensure our school operates in a well resourced and supportive environment which ensures the maximum possible level of high quality education is delivered to all students.

Trustees who are elected or co-opted, are responsible for administering the Ministry of Education by-laws, they are responsible for the maintenance of the school and its equipment and for the allocation and spending of funds and Ministry of Education grants.

They are always willing and interested to listen to suggestions and help in the betterment of the school, its conditions for students and in Ministry of Education policy matters.

The new Board of Trustees has settled in, responsibilities allocated, and have been most impressed by the data on student achievement being presented by the management team. We thank the staff for their hard work in coming to terms with the new reporting procedures, as required by the National Standards.

We have co-opted on two trustees to represent the Maori Community. Patsy Tawhai agreed to continue on the board, but could only commit until the end of the 2010 school year.  Hence to maintain continuity and  consistency, the board also co-opted on Ellen Turanga until the end of the Board term, being April 2013.

With the hall being all but complete, we are now in the process of renovating Rooms 5 and 6, which desperately needs an overhaul. Tenders have been submitted, and we are working through the process of how much can be achieved within our allotted budget.

We are also investigating the feasibility of upgrading the school pool, as we have a slight, but getting a bigger leak in the pool. We are working with the PTA and have sought community funding with the aim of being able to have a “new” pool for the start of the 2011 school year.
