A group of 12 students, Ms Fitzsimmons and Roz Ward attended the Enviroschools Workshop Day held at Hamilton Zoo today. 240 students from throughout the Waikato region attended. We left Taupo at 7:45am and arrived back at 4:45pm – a long day, however, very worth-while.

We participated in three hands-on workshops:

  • Identifying species – we learnt a lot of facts about our native creatures
  • Music and Movement – new songs and actions
  • Walk Through Bird Aviary – amazing to be so close to nature. The birds were landing on people and eating from the staff’s hands.

This was followed by lunch and ‘free’ roam time around the zoo – much to the delight of the children.

At 1:30 we reassembled for reflecting on our day and award presentations. Our school received:

  • 2012 Most Outstanding Group in the Taupo Region
  • 2012 Most Outstanding Lead Teacher in the Taupo Region

We acknowledge the support of the Taupo Rotary Club for providing their Community Coach free of charge for this trip.

Amanda Jones also provided transport for us.
