Fire Safety 2017

Winter is a good time to think about fire safety. Fireman Lance and Fireman John visited Room 9 to talk to us about this topic. They came in their fire engine.

Students were able to share their knowledge about fire safety as the firemen gave their presentation. Having a smoke alarm go off and seeing a DVD on how fast a fire can spread were highlights. Hopefully students took home the message that if there are no fire alarms in their house all they need to do is ring the fire station and some firemen will come and install one for free. Students were then invited to crawl to the door on their way to take a close up look at the fire engine parked in the car park.

It was great to see how much the students already knew and how they were able to ask some thoughtful questions. One question that was asked was “What happens when there was more than one fire at the same time?” The students enjoyed the opportunity of having the firemen coming to our school.
