Frog Blog

In Room 15 our ‘blend’ group were learning about ‘fr’ words.

Our phonics group were learning the sounds of ‘b’, ‘l’ and ‘f’.  Mrs Thompson decided to have a week themed around the song “Five Little Speckled Frogs.”  We learned the song and made paper lily pads, logs, bees, bugs and frogs during the week. These were then put together on a background that we painted to create a large collaborative artwork.

To make the week even more special, Mrs Thompson brought in frogs, froglets and tadpoles that she had caught for us.

Observing frogs

We loved observing the tadpoles, asking inquiry questions about them and researching the answers, writing about them, drawing them, and reading books about them.

It was super exciting seeing the tadpoles change into froglets, and the froglets change into frogs during the week. We were all very excited to notice that the tadpoles front legs grow under their skin. We could see them moving under their skin and then pop out through a hole!

We will hopefully release our first frog on Monday. Its new home will be in the pond at the aquaponics unit. Please come into Room 15 and check out our froglets and our artwork. We would all love to tell you more about them.
