Rubbish Audit

Paper We have been experimenting with different types of paper to see how well they break down when wet. A big concern is paper hand towels being used in the toilets. The hand towels remain in one piece after two weeks and still have some resistance when pulled. The toilet paper and tissues have gone mushy. The news paper remained firm even though it was cut into strips and small pieces, then placed in hot water.

RUBBISH AUDIT - THURSDAY 11.4.13 We did our audit today on ONE day of rubbish collected at school. Teah, Cody, Andrew, Bayley, Amanda, Ashleigh and Claudia worked Amanda Jones to sort/group and record weights/findings. 68% was food scraps. We worked through lunchtime and it was interesting how many students came and checked out what was happening, asked some great questions and offered to help. Many were amazed at the quantity for ONE day.

Fire Lighters - this year we have started making fire lighters, from dry cabbage tree leaves, and it is becoming a very good fundraiser. As part of our native tree planting programme, we now have a number of these trees and disposing of the leaves was an issue. Students collect the leaves and make up the orders.
