Newsletter Week 3 Term 3 2015

We have had a great start to the week with two parent workshops. The first held last night was to introduce parents to the innovative learning environments occurring in Rooms 1, 2 and 3. Parents met to talk about how the children are setting their own timetable and opting into workshops for their own learning. Sounds simple yet actually is a highly sophisticated model of learning and teaching from our expert teachers and their students.

I am putting up their PowerPoint on the website for you to look at by the end of the week. While it is only a short snap shot of the conversations had at the meeting, it will give you some starter points for thinking about the learning in the rooms.

The second workshops are being held by our teachers of Year 2 and 3 children Rooms 5, 6 and 7. The workshop will look at writing and the commitment to acceleration and how you may be able to help at home. This workshop looks to be well supported by families. Does it link to the work in Rooms 1 to 3? Yes it does as we are developing a model of learning that works for our students here at Wairakei. This is all part of our commitment to students being active in their learning and using their skills in multiple ways.

Our mission statement talks about growing lifelong learners and these are some of the ways we are committed to that statement. It is not just about the children here at school.

Thank you all for your support of the Ned Show by purchasing the yoyos. I was quite amazed at the response to this show and I do think it is nice to see children playing with an old favourite toy of the past.

We had very successful parent teacher discussions last week with plenty of conversations around learning and what we are working on with your children. I would like to thank the community and teachers for their support of this process. It is hard to co-ordinate everyone together at the same time, however well worth the effort.

I have not been able to attend some of the latest assemblies due to other meetings. I am really looking forward to this week’s assembly hosted by Room 1.

I have heard very positive comments about last week’s assembly hosted by Rooms 8 and 9. They are always very special assemblies to see.

Kind regards
