Our school mission statement is “We work together in partnership with our community”. Yesterday we extended that partnership to include WorkSafe New Zealand and Blue Light.
Our formal assembly to acknowledge the work of our senior students was a great success. Each child was presented with a framed certificate to celebrate the work and commitment of our students as well as the school receiving an iPad Air which has been given to Room One to work with. I am always impressed with the way our school represented itself. Our students sat and listened to the speakers and showed off their manners when receiving their certificates. Our visitors commented on the wonderful behaviour of the students and their high levels of engagement. The photos that we have taken at the assembly will be up on our new formatted website in the next few days.
You will notice a few changes to the website. Our partnership with the Ministry of Education has led us to develop a modern interface website for our students to share their work on. Each video will have a short explanation of the work achieved on it and you will be able to like the blog posts as they appear. Options to link to social media are in the pipe line and we will let you know how this will work once we finalise the process.
As parents and supporters of the school you will be able to follow the school calendar and subscribe to the newsletter and calendar updates. Very exciting stuff to watch out for. Another way you can follow the learning that is happening is to subscribe to the school YouTube channel Wairakei3332. This will give you immediate access to the videos as they are uploaded.
From the start of next term we will be sending out the newsletters every fortnight on even weeks. This is a trial to see if the communication levels are maintained. I will be surveying you all towards the end of Term Four to see what the overall opinion on a fortnightly newsletter is from the parent community.
We will also be having buddy class assemblies for Term Four. This is because there are a large number of Fridays taken out of action with Pet Day and our school production. The community calendar will be coming out in Week One, Term Four with all assembly dates on it.
A large number of children have put their names down for Touch Rugby. We are looking for more coaches for the under seven teams.
Good luck to our Kapa Haka group and to our Maths Matters Teams for their performances this week. We wish you well.
