|Dear Parents and Caregivers of Ohaaki Community Students|
Welcome to everyone for Term 2, 2016.
What a fantastic week our Year 3 and 4’s had in week 9 of Term 1. Our amazing Year 4’s attended an overnight camp to further strengthen our understandings of Turangawaewae and belonging to a group. Our Parent helpers were there to support us and of course have fun with all the children’s learning. While we were at camp Mrs Ross and Ms Ingram ran a programme of cooperative activities with our year 3’s who had the opportunity to expand their understanding of technology and again working with others as a team. All fantastic Inquiry learning activities
We are looking forward to Term 2 and working with your child. We have a lot of interesting happenings this term and we are sure you will support these.
Our Inquiry focus following on from our Turangawaewae topic will be Systems.
For this we will be looking at the biosphere, hemisphere, lithosphere and geosphere. Hopefully we will be able to do a field trip focusing on one of these. We will advise dates for this.
Our P.E. focus this term will be large ball skills (rugby, soccer, netball etc).
Our Maths focus will be Number and Measurement this term.
To help support your child with their reading we still have the Reading Eggs programme available to purchase for $28. See your classroom teacher about readers to go home.
We hope to have a more specific focus with our electives this term. This will happen on Friday between 11.30a.m-1.p.m. We will be working with technology with our classes in mixed groups again. The children who belong to Kapa Haka and Enviro groups will continue with these this term as well.
It is the children’s responsibility to return their books each library day.
Homework will continue as it has done for Term 1.
Parent Helpers in the Classroom
Our classes are involved in the ALL (Accelerated Literacy Learning) with writing this term. For this to be really successful we would like parent help with writing between 9a.m. and 11a.m. If you can help any day Monday to Thursday please see your class teacher to organise a time. Ideally if we could have two parents per day between this time it would benefit our students greatly. Teachers will talk with you how this will work with specific guidelines.
Parent Information Session
We will be running this to inform you about how our literacy programme will be structured in writing. We are interested in your feedback and views and you will have an opportunity to fill out a questionnaire at the end of this meeting. Please support us in helping your child’s learning. We have included a slip for you to indicate a time that best suits for you to attend a session. If we do not have many parents who indicate the later time as being better for them then we will only run one session.
The Ohaaki Teachers, Marie, Carla, Margo and Rebecca.
Parent Information Session to be held on Monday May 9, 2016 in Room 1.
Open for anyone to attend.
