Ohaaki team letter

Welcome to 2017. We are looking forward to a wonderful year in the Ohaaki Team with your children.

This year we have 4 classes in our Ohaaki Team.

Room 1 - Year 3 / 4, Mrs Woolnough and Mrs Ross,

Room 2 - Year 3, Whaea Margo,

Room 3 - Year 3 /4, Mrs Lightfoot,

Room 4 - Year 3 Mrs Painter.

We have an exciting term ahead. During the first weeks teachers will be getting to know their new students and focusing on our POWER. Class routines and guidelines will be set up in conjunction with our class Dojo system throughout the whole team. We look forward to every child starting on day one ready to learn with their new stationery.

Inquiry: First 3 weeks is POWER. We will be adding a new Inquiry topic of “Interactions” following on from POWER.

Mathematics: We will be focusing on Number and Statistics this term. The school will continue to use Mathletics to booster your child’s maths knowledge and understanding and of course students are able to access this at home as well.

Literacy: All curriculum areas will be covered working towards student’s individual needs.

Physical Education: The Ohaaki team will have daily PE sessions Monday to Thursday where children will learn new skills and practice these. Our school focus for PE is small ball skills and our School Athletics which we will be building up our fitness for this later in the term. Our Year 4’s will get the opportunity to represent our school at Interschool Athletics so fitness is really important.

Guitar Lessons: The school offers guitar lessons for Year 4-6 students with a guitar tutor Jo Paull from the Taupo School of Music. These lessons are held on a Monday morning during school time. The cost is $5 for a half hour lesson with a small group. Your child will need their own guitar. If you are interested please ring the school office.

Year 4 School Camp: This is just for our Year 4 students who will have the opportunity to have a two day/overnight camp at our local Bluelight Lodge. The Year 3’s will partake in some fun activities at school during this time. More information will follow soon including looking for parent support for this camp.

Meet the Teacher’s: This is going to be held on Tuesday 7 February from

3p.m. - 4p.m. This is an opportunity to come and meet us informally and visit our classrooms. We look forward to seeing you there.

Parent Helpers: We welcome any parents/grandparents that have a spare hour or two to help out in the classrooms. Teachers will give you small tasks like listening to reading, playing an activity or game with a small group of students, and other bits and bobs. We will be looking for parent support during our Electives and Kapa Haka time on a Friday. More to come about this once our Electives programme is up and running again.

School Uniform: This term school hats are compulsory. All school clothes must be named as it is impossible to track lost items. We encourage water bottles during the hot weather.

If you wish to contact class teachers please feel free to email us.

We look forward to meeting you all and welcoming you into our Ohaaki Community.
