Our Classroom Treaty

Room 5 & 6 investigated just what a ‘Treaty’ was, as we headed into Waitangi Day. We decided to establish our own Treaty using POWER as our guide.

Learning Style

We worked in groups of four. We brainstormed expectations around our POWER words, differentiating what POWER looks like in our behaviour and our learning.

Teams were awarded stars for following the criteria correctly, contributing fantastic ideas, and demonstrating real teamwork.

Mrs Graham recorded our ideas that we shared on the big screen. This was helpful as we all participated in editing and tweaking our thoughts. Whaea Ange was in charge of the timer, giving stars and roaming to support those needing prompts and ideas.

The winning team (the students who earned the most stars) were chosen to be photographed with our Class Treaty document for our blog.

This was a great teaching and learning style where all 49 students were actively involved in creating their own rights and responsibilities for 2018.
