Saturday November 7, 2015. Thank you to all those who attended the annual Wairakei Priamry School Pet Day. Another amazing turn out of the community. It was so wonderful to see the increase in the amount of pets that came for the judging and I enjoyed the wide range of animals on show. The flowers arrangements and the vegetable creations were again superb and make the school hall smell like spring. The stalls around the grounds did a roaring trade on sausages, cold drinks and homemade sweets. There was an increase in the amount of families who came from around the area to join in the fun.
One of the many highlights for me had to be the senior school stalls. These carnival activities were a real hit this year. Well planned and organised. The younger children just loved the thrill of winning a lolly for putting their faces in icing sugar or smashing an old plate. It was hard to close these stalls down this year. No one wanted them to finish.
Pet day is always a catch-up day for the community. Parents of past students come armed with cash to enjoy the fun and repeat their previous experiences. I really enjoyed catching up with many current and past families and to see how their children had grown in height.
To our incredible PTA. What a fantastic effort. You work so well as a team. Constantly thinking about how Pet Day works for the families and the children who attend. Your ability to engage our sponsors highlighted your talent for community engagement. Together you created a wonderful inviting day for everyone who attended.
Thank you to the kind sponsors who supported the school and participated on the day. Thank you to the teachers who assisted the many judges across all the different categories.
Thank you to all the judges who took up the challenge of being a judge. I did over hear that some past parents now consider it their time to become a judge for future Pet Days.
Pet day is a special day for everyone at Wairakei Primary School.
