Te Huka Junior Year 1 learning community for 2016

Dear Parents and Caregivers,

Welcome to the Te Huka Junior learning–community for 2016. This is based around a collaborative open plan classroom in Rooms 8 and 9. While the children will have a homeroom it is our intention that the children enjoy the benefit of three teachers who will work as a close team to meet the learning and social needs of your child in this important transition from the early childhood to school environment. As a whole school, we will be continuing our journey into flexible and collaborative learning (also known as Modern Learning).

What does this mean for your child? The core curriculum areas will still be our main focus alongside life skills such as…

  • managing self

  • risk taking

  • creativity

  • relating to others

  • problem solving

  • resilience

  • participating and contributing.

The children will be working in a variety of learning spaces and with different teachers as they do in Discovery. We believe this approach engages our learners which in turn raises achievement.

We are all very excited to be part of this change in the education system and look forward to working with you and your child next year.

We will be holding an information evening in Term One.

Kind regards

Tracey O’Sullivan, Helen Dredge & Susannah Driver
