Te Huka Learning Community Term 4 Letter

Dear Parents and Caregivers,

Welcome to the start of our final term for the year. It is always a busy and enjoyable one with many fun activities as we head towards summer.  We hope you all had a relaxing break with your families and friends over the holidays. Here is a brief outline of our classroom expectations, routines and what we will be covering this term in our team.  Welcome to any new families that have joined us over the last term.

Uniform and Waterbottles.

Our school polo shirt, polar fleece and/or hoodie are compulsory at Wairakei Primary School. These can be bought from Brandfuel in Oruanui Street. The school hoodies can be ordered from the office. Children must wear their uniform every day.  This term sunhats are also compulsory. Please make sure your child has one with their name in it. As this is always a warmer term and our classrooms do heat up, it is useful for children to have named water bottles at school.

Rules and Expectations

Students are expected to manage their behaviour and follow our school vision of P.O.W.E.R- Pride, Opportunity, Whanau, Excellence and Respect. We will continue to learn about these values and how they help us with our learning. We appreciate the support from home in promoting these values also.

Physical Education

The focus this term will be small ball skills and games. Rooms 7, 10, 11 and 4 will be running a games rotation each Friday to promote these skills alongside teamwork and good sportsmanship.

We will be continuing with this ‘hands on’ activity based programme on Fridays from 11.30a.m to 1.00p.m in the junior school area. All activities focus on strengthening students’ problem solving skills, creativity and self-management. If you have any skills or interests  you would like to share with students please talk to your classroom teacher and we would love to include you in our discovery programme. These might include activities like flax weaving, carpentry, sewing crafts and sports.

Each child should have a clear-file as their home-link communication book. This needs to be returned daily as we use this as part of our literacy programme. The clear-file will also have a reading log with a check in and check out box so we can keep track of our readers going home. These are also a wonderful record of your child’s reading mileage which is worth celebrating. Please check for any readers at home that we may have missed.

Library Days

Please make sure your child brings their library book back on the correct day so they may change them.

  • Room 7- Tuesday
  • Room 10- Thursday
  • Room 11- Monday
  • Room 4- Wednesday

Term Inquiry

We will be continuing with our Functions inquiry for five weeks into this term.  Our next inquiry will be around Celebrations in the lead up to the holidays.

Upcoming events

Any important events will be listed in the school newsletter which comes home every week on a Tuesday.  Log onto Mail Chimp on the contacts page of the school website to receive a digital copy of the newsletter.  This term look out for the date for Pets day and our end of year trip.

Please feel free to contact us if you would like to make a time to meet to discuss any aspect of your child’s learning.
