On Tuesday 24 May the Te Mihi Community will be taking students to compete with others schools in a Year 5/6 Science and Technology Challenge.
This competition gives creative and practical students a chance to shine in an exciting, competitive environment.
Each team will be located at a workstation, which contains an impressive assortment of easy to use equipment, including gears, wheels, pulleys, weights, tools, aluminium framing, motors and electronics.
At the start of the event, teams will be given a booklet containing four challenges. Each challenge will be split into parts which range from easy to challenging.
Teams choose which challenges they to wish to complte. Typically the more difficult challenges will be worth more points. They won't have enough time to finish all the challenges. There is strategy involed in deciding which challenges best suit their skills and abilities.
Prior to the event students will be given the opportunity to practice working in a team using tasks that will allow them to practice the skills needed.
This challenge is called EPro8 Challenge and is a professionally run event. We are looking forward to seeing our students compete against their peers from other schools. More information can be found here.
We will be sure to put up photos of the students practicing in school and during the event.
